Dear Friends,
The future us created by people with the energy and the vision to build it. One of the reasons for America’s greatness is that it has drawn so many good people with so many skills, dreams and talents, for so long, from so many countries around the world. The American Experiment continues to succeed today because it is constantly renewed by its people.
In other words, the United States is 200 years young -- young, because each new generation of immigrants gives it new life and new moral character.
National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the long record of Hispanic contributions to American life. But it is not really a time for memories and nostalgia. The Latino impact on American life continues to deepen and grow, in my own state of Colorado and throughout the country. It is a huge blessing for our nation’s cultural, economic and religious spirit. I’m especially grateful for the work of organizations like CALL -- the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders -- which bring together excellent leaders from every walk of life not only to serve their Church, but to build cooperation and friendship with the wider community.
I take great pride in being part of CALL and sharing in its service and success. But CALL itself is part of a much larger gift to American life -- the gift of Hispanic talent, hard work and humanity that continues to renew our nation’s life.
May God bless all of you, and support you in your service to each other, to your communities, and to the best ideals of our nation.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
