The Catholic Imperative
According to the Census Bureau Hispanics are by far the fastest growing demographic group in the United States, currently comprising over 15% of the population. What's more, 70% of US Hispanics profess the Catholic faith - an estimated 33 million people.
Since 1990 both Hispanics and Catholicism have grown significantly in number however, more and more Hispanics are being drawn away from their Catholic faith into a more secular world-view.
As responsible Catholics, and as responsible citizens, it is time to understand fully what is really at stake for the future of our Church and our country.
The spiritual well-being and growth of all individuals should be the foundation of our efforts to create a society promoting justice and respect for all people. We know that the best opportunity we have for a just society is one that widely accepts Gospel principles, both by the government and in the hearts of the people.
Many efforts are already underway by an army of special interest groups all intent on "winning over" the Hispanic demographic, specifically in the public education systems and in the voting booth. The Catholic Association of Latino Leaders has been formed in order "to work with the Church for the common good in the service of Latino communities in the United States and to share the truths of the Gospel and the values of our faith and culture in our society." It is the responsibility of ALL Catholics to make sure that we are winning these Hispanic souls for the kingdom of God through the ministries of the Church and organizations like C.A.L.L.
Even in times when the economy is bad, we must double our efforts on these matters because the secular forces are strong and well funded. Please do whatever you are capable of doing to support CALL's mission and work by donating today. Remember, all donations to CALL are tax deductible.
